To begin, I strongly recommend downloading a program called bitlord. It is not absolutely necessary, but it allows you to stop and start downloads as you wish and will allow you to easily select exactly which files you wish to download even if many are packaged together into one torrent. If you choose, go to bitlord.com, select Download and download Bitlord. (The current version is 1.1 -- you DO NOT need BitLord Pro)
